What is a gallon?

The gallon is a vessel used to store various types of liquids, a practice that has been going on sinceancient times, but it is also a unit of volume measurement used in Anglo-Saxon countries. In England, one gallon is equivalent to 4.55 litres, while in the United States it is 3.79 litres for liquids and 4.4 litres for bulk.

What should I look for when buying a wine gallon?

A good wine gallon should be a sturdy vessel, ensuring that the drink stays in good condition for a long time. We recommend that you pay attention to the following elements when making your purchase:

  • A good wine gallon should be made of coloured glass, such as green or brown, which will protect the beverage from sunlight. Many such products have a special window to check the level of the wine or are made of slightly lighter glass, which allows you to determine how much drink remains inside the vessel.

  • Manywater gallons arealso made from other materials, such as synthetic HDPE plastics, which are approved for food contact.

  • An extremely important part of choosing a vessel is its capacity. A 5 litre wine gallon is sufficient for light consumption, and a 25 litre wine gallon is sufficient for moderate consumption. If this type of beverage is used frequently and in larger quantities, for example for cooking or serving at parties, a 50 litre wine gallon is a good choice.

  • It is worth paying attention to whether the gallon has a scale, which will allow you to read precisely how much wine is left inside the gallon.

  • The container should be equipped with a handle so that the wine can be poured comfortably into a carafe or directly into a glass. The handle should be ergonomically well shaped to grip well in the hand.

  • All parts of the wine gallon must be well-fitted - the thick walls of the vessel and a well-fitted handle affect the durability of the product.

How do you store wine in the kitchen?

Proper storage of wine ensures that this noble beverage retains the fullness of its flavour and aroma. The following tips will certainly help with proper storage:

  • The best place to store wine in the kitchen is in a cupboard or shelfthat is dark, cool and at a constant temperature. Wine should be stored between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.

  • The wine should be stored in the bottle or wine gallon in a horizontal position. The horizontal position keeps the cork constantly moist and prevents it from drying out.

  • Do not store wine in direct contact with sunlight, as this can lead to a loss of flavour.

  • Avoid storing wine near heat-generating appliances such as a fridge or oven.

  • It is a good idea to regularly check the condition of your wine gallons. If you notice any cracks, such liquor should not be drunk.
