Sugar bowls

What is a sugar bowl? What is its history?

A sugar bowl is a vessel for storing and serving sugar. Its role is both practical and decorative. It is usually a component of a tableware set, although it is increasingly purchased separately. A sugar bowl typically holds from 100 to 250 ml of sugar.

The history of the sugar bowl dates back to the late 18th century. Initially it was made mainly of silver, later also of ceramic, porcelain, faience and crystal. In the 20th century, glass, metal and plastic began to be used. Following the designs of sugar bowls over the years, it can be concluded that their shape, form and decoration reflect fashion trends. Sugar bowls throughout history are unique works of functional art.

Which sugar bowl for the home? What interesting options are there in the shop?

The sugar bowl is an item found in every home. It adds elegance to coffee or tea served, decorates the table and is functional. The choice of a particular sugar bowl depends largely on the style of the interior, the table decoration and your personal preferences.

A sugar bowl can have different characters – casual, for everyday use, or more refined, for more special occasions. That is why many homes have not just one, but several sugar bowls.

In our shop you will find sugar bowls for every occasion and in various styles – modern, minimalist sugar bowls as well as more classic, richly decorated ones.

For everyday use we recommend classic glass sugar bowls, transparent, with a minimalist construction. They are very practical. These sugar bowls usually have no handles, only a lid.

We also recommend white porcelain sugar bowls, e.g. the Victoria or Maria sugar bowl. These sugar bowls are also very practical, as they are dishwasher safe.

A more classic and traditional sugar bowl is also white, but this time with a more ornate shape. We recommend the Rococo sugar bowl, and the Iwona sugar bowl. The latter is from the Polish brand Chodzież.

The sugar bowl is made of white porcelain with a lid and comfortable handles. It is also dishwasher and microwave safe.

If you are looking for a sugar bowl for a modern, Scandinavian interior, it is worth choosing porcelain sugar bowls in a modern, minimalist shape combined with a bamboo lid and, additionally, a spoon included in the set.

Modern sugar bowls also come as sets together with a creamer from the same series. In the Mondex shop we recommend the Peter or Ecila Dark glass set. Both sets are glass sugar bowls, making use of the versatility and simplicity of this material. The sets will suit almost any interior and room. Additionally, they can be easily washed in the dishwasher. The second sugar bowl is also a beautiful, unique, slightly retro shade of green glass with lovely embossed patterns in the glass.

If you are looking for a very refined sugar bowl, we recommend the Złota Róża sugar bowl from Ćmielów. White porcelain sugar bowl, hand-decorated with a rose motif and gold accents. Comfortable handles and a lid allow for convenient storage and serving of sugar.

Which sugar bowl as a gift?

There is no doubt that a sugar bowl is also an excellent gift idea, whether for a birthday, jubilee, wedding, housewarming, etc. It is worth matching the sugar bowl to the recipient's favourite style. Attention should also be paid to the quality of the sugar bowl itself. For gifts we especially recommend silver sugar bowls, crystal sugar bowls or porcelain ones.
